Shard Rules, Part One

In-Game Rules

The following are the rules of conduct that all players that play on Requiem are expected to follow in-game. By applying for an account on Requiem, you are signifying that not only have you read these rules, but that you understand and agree to play by them. These rules are subject to change when deemed necessary by the Requiem staff. Should they be changed, you will be informed by a staff announcement. A GameMaster's decision to enact a penalty is non-negotiable and not up for debate.

1. Role-Playing

Requiem is a role-playing shard, and as such you will be expected to role-play while in-game (IG). That being said, this “rule” is more common sense than anything else. We are not here to limit your role-play, just as long as it realistically fits within the world you are entering. The rest is common sense; street slang, Internet speak, and Out Of Character (OOC) speech is not welcome IG. Character and pet names should be realistic.

If you need advisement on role-playing, please contact the Staff. Once you are IG, ignorance is not an excuse.

Penalties

Players who display poor RP values; IE, conducting actions or reacting to situations in-game without good RP, will have one RRP point removed.

1.2 Abuse of speciffic in-game mechanics via. lack of RP

Requiem utilizes numerous in-game systems that empower players. System such as Hiding and Stealth, which can make a player invisible to others, need to be handled in a proper role-playing manner.

Penalties

Players who display poor RP values when using in-game mechanics will have one RRP point removed.

1.2.1 Hiding/Stealth

Hiding and stealth should be used in accordance to common sense; players who try to hide from others in plain view, attempt to open doors while hidden, stealth past streetlights and a plethora of NPCs, and other general mookish behavior will be considered a violation of Rule 1.

1.3 Meta-Mooking (AKA Power-RPing)

Meta-mooking is the art of using what many would consider out of character senses to otherwise role-play your character in a fashion that wouldn't otherwise be achievable. Hearing a door slam through two buildings, four stone walls, and over a dog barking just for an excuse to find a character you may be chasing who is hiding in a nearby house is considered Meta-Mooking.

Penalties

Players who are guilty of Power RPing will have one RRP point removed.

2. Maturity and Respect

Please respect both the Staff and your fellow players while in-game. While this rule does not nessicarily dictate the way to play your character, use some common respect in-game during moments that require it. Running around naked during an event or attempting to "steal someones thunder" during a serious quest are examples of disrespect in the game world.

Penalties

Players who fail to show staff proper respect in communications (IE: harassing, belittling, etc.) or show lack of maturity in the game world will be banned from the mIRC room, forums, and the in-game client for a period of 24 hours.

3. Explicit Content

Requiem is intended to be a starkly realistic and perhaps even frightening role-playing experience. It is intended only for mature players capable of handling such situations. By applying for Requiem and playing on our shard, you are signifying that you realize this and are prepared to role-play in such an environment. That being said, there are times when we draw the line; sexual role-play in Requiem is very taboo, and if you wish to role-play in such a way, please do so through outside means. Role-play involving rape, the mutilation or torture of children, and other over-the-top morally wrong siuations are expressly forbidden and will be met with expulsion from the community.

Penalties

Players who disregard our policies on explicit content will be banned from the shard.

3.1 Children Characters

Characters under the age of 16 are prohibited from being applied for or created without the explicit approval of the Administration. There are no exceptions to this rule.

4. Player vs Player Combat

Requiem is an open-PvP shard. This means that all instances of PvP combat are welcome, as long as they are part of rational role-play. If you engage in PvP, you will be expected to have a reasonable excuse for doing so, and you will most certainly be held accountable for any and all circumstances. Think ahead before you engage in PvP, and prepare to face any number of circumstances, including, but not limited to being jailed IG, being hunted IG, and depending on the circumstances, having your character subjected to Final Death. That being said, the Staff will not be coddling any party who is subjected to PvP carried out in a manner befitting a high-caliber role-playing shard.

4.5 Player Looting

Looting player corpses of items and goods should be handled in accordance to Rule 1. It is considered bad RP to strip a person of their armor and clothes (IE: DRY LOOT) once they are knocked out, as realistically, this is difficult task to perform. While there is no rules concerning what items can be looted and what cannot, we will examine complaints of item looting by other players per Rule 1 and 2. Respect your fellow player, and respect the RP limitations of the game world.

Penalties

Players who display poor RP or moral values when looting other players will lose 1 - 5 RRP points, depending on the situation.

5. Bugs & Exploits

The scripters of Requiem work ceaselessly to make sure that the mechanics of the game are clean and fair. That being said, sometimes bugs or exploits may escape their notice. Do not exploit any bugs you may find in the system to benefit your character. You will be caught and you will be punished. If you notice a bug please notify any member of the Staff through private message here on the board or via IRC, even if you think it may have already been reported. If you are not sure whether a function of the game is a bug or an exploit, report it anyway. It is better to be safe and report it, than to be sorry and be subjected to disciplinary action. Ignorance, as always, is not an excuse. And last but not least, do not expect rewards for reporting bugs; the respect you will garner from the Staff is more valuable than anything we can give you IG.

Penalties

Players who are found abusing bugs and exploits will be banned from the shard, forums and mIRC room for a period of one week. In addition, the character used to exploit a bug will be deleted.

6. Muling & Third-Party Programs

Muling is the act of benefiting your character with other characters you play. (For example: placing items, or gold in a certain spot with one character, so another character of yours can take the items.) This is cheating and will not be tolerated. Third-party programs are not allowed for use with Requiem (including such programs as UOLoop, etc.). Razor is allowed, however we do not offer any technical support for it.

Penalties

Players found muling will be banned from the shard. Those who are found using third party programs will be banned from the shard, forums and mIRC room for a period of one week, and have the character in which they were "cheating" with deleted.

7. Metagaming

Metagaming is strictly prohibited in any fashion. Metagaming is defined as the use of any knowledge garnered in an OOC fashion (via chat programs or any Requiem board post that is not explicitly listed as Common IG Knowledge) that directly affects the actions of your character. Use of knowledge garnered through these channels in order to plan your character’s actions is a sign of not only poor role-playing, but also of an immature player. If a player is found to be using this information they will be punished accordingly.

Penalties

Players who are guility of meta-gaming will be deducted 5 RRP points, and listed publically on the forums in the form of an announcement concerning their infraction.

7.1 Excessive in-game OOC

Requiem utilizes numerous in-game avenues of communication between parties, guilds and alliances. These communication services are meant to be used sparingly. Players who are seen using these in-game chat services excessively will be dealt with accordingly.

Penalties

Players who are guility of excessive OOC will be deducted 1 RRP point.
